The primary purpose of the Miller Learning Center (MLC) Group Study Rooms is for small group collaboration, research and study by students. When designing the MLC, the Libraries made a conscious decision to have a “no reservations” policy for the Group Study Rooms. All ninety-six (96) Group Study Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. This allows students' access to the rooms when and as needed, saves effort and frustration on the part of students and staff that reserving and scheduling can involve, and better focuses Libraries' and EITS's limited staff resources to provide research and computing assistance rather than the management of space.
The “no reservations” policy for the Group Study Rooms has one exception. Group Study Rooms can be reserved during classroom hours specifically for the purpose of providing classroom “breakout session” space. A classroom breakout session is defined as a teaching model whereby one scheduled class per week, for example, meets in smaller sections to facilitate discussion and greater interaction in the larger classes. Twenty (20) of the Miller Learning Center's ninety-six (96) Group Study Rooms have been designated for this use during classroom hours. To reserve a group study room for a classroom breakout session contact Campus Reservations (583-8020 or rsvtdesk@uga.edu. Requests to reserve a group study room (s) may be made at the beginning of each semester or anytime during the semester up to 24 hours before the time the room is needed on a first come, first-served basis.
